want to replace win 2000 with XP but can't get 2000 off the computer

  1. Enter your BIOS and set the boot sequence so that the CD drive boot prior to the HDD.  Next, put your XP installation CD into the CD drive and restart your system.  Follow the instructions for removing and creating the primary partition.  Then allow XP to format the partition.  From this point on the installation should be automatic.
