Ok so i bought a used shortboard and its in great condition. except for a small ding on the upper right rail. Its about 3 inches long and the foam is exposed i peeled the fiberglass off because it started to chip then i sanded around it. I bought a SOLAREZ ding repair kit. It came with catalyst, sandpaper, microballoon resin and fiberfill resin (whats the difference?), tape, measuring cup and fiber glass patches. from what I've been reading about online you tape around the area and mix the fiberglass with the catalyst and have at it. Do you fill the ding with resin then add fiber glass then add more resin? Or just fill it and add fiberglass?

  1. fill it then add the fiberglass

  2. It may not actually need to be filled.  The micro balloon stuff is for filling voids.  The chopped fiber is basically like using Suncure ding repair when you mix it with the resin.  Since you now have missing fiber glass, feather the edges down to make them smooth down to the foam, sand the  area around the whole area and tape off an area about 1.5 inches past the edge of the hole.  Cut a patch of fiber glass about the size of your taped off area.  Mix up some resin and catalyst, smear a little resin on the exposed foam and surrounding glass and lay down your patch.  Put some more resin over it making sure to smooth out any bubbles.  When ti starts to kick remove the tape.  If your kit came with a plastic sheet you can tape it over the area nice and tight and it will smooth out the finish of the resin.  When it all cures sand down the edges to smooth them out and off you go.

  3. I took my board into a shop and talked with the person that does their repairs.  He was more than happy to tell me how to fix it myself.  Many shops only repair boards that they are going to resell, so it isn't like you would pay them to do it for you.

  4. what kind did you get. cuz mine is just a yellow tube thing that you put over the ding  then hardens in 2 min
