  1. you can't put coolant in. you need special tools and GAGES

your auto, yea, your fridge or room air conditioner, no.

  2. In addition to the other answers,is the freezer compartment as cold as it should be?  If so check if the fan is running in the freezer.

  3. It is possible that the fridge will need freon added, but their are some other more likely reasons not to cool.

If it needs refrigerant it should be added by certified technician.

    Check the cold control.

The temperature inside the refrigerator should be about 37 degrees F.

Listen for the freezer fan inside the freezer.

When the freezer fan is running, it means the defrost timer and the cold control in the refrigerator are both set to cool.

Make sure nothing is blocking the way between the freezer and refrigerator compartments.

If airflow is restricted, the refrigerator won't get cold.

Do not place anything in front of the fan in the freezer, or in front of air outlet in refrigerator component.

Do not overfill refrigerator with food.

Try not to open refrigerator door too often or for too long.

If your refrigerator runs without stopping (unless you turn it off), it may be low on refrigerant.

Look at the condenser coils, located at the bottom of the or, in some cases, at the back.

If the coils are dirty, the refrigerator won't operate efficiently.

    Clean the coils.

  4. refrigerators are mass produced  sealed units and it is not economical to repair leaks in them.

However there are other reasons why your unit is not cooling and it can easily be corrected.

The no 1 reason for problems is that the compressor assembly and condensor coil is usually underneathe the fridge and it gets completely dirty and dusty and covered with dog and cat hair. Alll this filth acts as an insullator and prevents the unit from working properly. It may need a good cleaning

Also bunderneathe there is a small circulating fan and it should be running.

You may email me if you wish just in case neither of these isthe cause---there are a few more.
