  1. Firstly I syphon the water out with a gravel syphon, making sure to push the filter (if it is internal) down far enough so it isn't exposed to too much air, same with the heater since it can blow up and cause some serious injury to both you and your fish.  Then I fill a saucepan up with conditioned water and gently heat it on the stove until it is the same temp as the water (use a thermometer, don't trust the touch method).  Pour water gently into the aquarium so as not to disturb the fish, the plants and the substrate (usually a trickle or a little more if your tank can handle it).  May be tedious but it is faster than using a heater in the bucket, and the water is always the same temp as the aquarium.  Try it, once you get into the routine it can be enjoyable and rewarding.

    Good luck!!

  2. Warm the water as close to the temp. of the aquarium. Best way I found, if using a bucket is to use a digital thermometer and adjust water right into the bucket using the bath tub faucet. Don't forget to put conditioner in the water.

A  Python siphon is nice but hardly worth it on a small tank.

  3. Buy yourself a Python. Expensive but WORTH IT.

You dont have to carry buckets of dirty fish water across the house, and while it's emptying you can actually set the temp of the water so it's the same. Then flip the switch and refill! SO easy.

    yes dont forget your conditioner!
