How to replace the water pump on a 1995 60hp mercury outboard?

  1. Not quite that simple, drop the lower unit and you will see a plate with 4 screws in it. remove the screws with care. You will see a rubber impeller with 5 or 6 blades, There is a set s***w holding it to the shaft, take it out. Notice which way the blades are. Remove the impeller by sliding it up the shaft. Clean the cavity out and make sure it is clean, slide the new impeller down and bend the blades the same way that the old one was, put the set s***w back all the way in. Spray some wd-40 on the impeller. Put the cover back on tight, has to be on flat and tight. Replace the lower unit. One more hint: If the motor has been in salt water, you might want to spray the nuts and bolts with some kind of penetrating oil the day before. It is not the easiest job in the world.


  2. Drop the lower unit and there it is.
