Question:

How to report bad hygiene in a Restaurant?

I was wondering in Australia, who do I contact about reporting bad hygiene?

The meat where I work including chicken is defrosted, re-frozen and defrosted again before it is even cooked, then sometimes refrozen and defrosted again if the restaurant is closed for a couple of days.

Meat is defrosted in the sink without the sink being cleaned, and quite a few other dodgy things that I'd rather not discuss!!

I know myself not to refreeze defrosted meat, especially chicken, but the owners of the restaurant I work at do this constantly.

Some food is left in the coolroom for two weeks and used, even when it should have been thrown out.

Can anyone help as to who I go to?

  1. I would look into a health organization that monitors restaurants.  Usually, there are health departments that investigate businesses that aren't following code.  Do you have better business bureaus?  You need to find some organization that regulates commerce.

Be sure, that you are able to provide the shady info confidentially.  Thanks for speaking up.

  2. That's disgusting!!

Don't you Aussies have a health dep't to report to??

  3. Call the corporate office! or the local news station...

  4. If you are in NSW, conact NSW Food Authority- they handle all sorts of complaints NSW wide, both rural and metro.

  5. By all means, report it to a health department, or the office that gave them their license to operate.

You ill be doing your community a great service, and probably keep a lot of folks from getting sick like you did.  That  kind of dirty kitchen and meat handling could very easily make a child too sick to recover - there is no telling how much bacteria accumulates on the meat being defrosted and refrozen - report it to someone ASAP!

  6. Well if you dont feel confortable about calling the manager then have a friend do it. Thats extremely gross or you can call the corporate. Im sure they have their Owners name . Call him and remain anonomous. You get my drift?

  7. call the local council in the area the restaurant is located in they will have health inspectors who's job it is to investigate issues like this.

It will have been the council that gave the restaurant a licence to operate in the first place and they have to power to close the restaurant down.

  8. The FDA!
