How to reserve a seat on an Aircraft for a long journey?

Hi,

Today I booked a direct flight from Bombay to New York through Delta Airlines for 10th Sept. 2008.

I was interested in holding (reserving) a seat of my choice immediately.

Could anybody guide me how to go about it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Book a flight online through Delta.  That's what I always do.  I booked a flight to Kiev, Ukraine, and back with Delta online recently.  For questions, I always use Delta online live chat.  It's handy, and actually you get to talk to a Delta rep much quicker than when using the phone.

If you already belong to SkyMiles and the number is attached to your reservation just long in to your account via www.delta.com, select Itineraries & Check-In, and then select seats.  You might want to look at www.seatguru.com for seat suggestions before selecting seats.  You will need to know the exact model of the aircraft to use seatguru.

If you don't belong to SkyMiles go to www.delta.com and join.  Then call Delta (talk to a human) and both have your number attached to the reservation and select seats while you are on the phone.  I recommend talking to a human by phone the first time you do this.
