Question:

How to resolve a "incompatible video signal has been received" message on my Sharp LC-46D82U?

The HDMI cable I got when I bought my TV last year just about reached the cable box. I finally decided this week to get a longer cable, but when I hooked it up, I got an incompatible video signal has been received" message on the screen. I went back to the original HDMI and still get the same message. I've reset the TV back to the factory settings and reset the Cable box, but still the same error. Any help is appreciated.

Note:

Prior to swapping out the HDMI cable I also was fiddling with a VCR/DVD player and the tri-colored cables. I couldn't get any video (just audio). I realized later that I had the wrong colored cables..blue/red/green instead of red/white/yellow. They are all unplugged now, so I don't know if that is the cause of this issue. I would've thought that resetting the cable box and tv would've fixed it if that was the culprit.

  1. Looks like an HDMI compatibility issue.

Check what is the video output of your set-top box. Try BOTH 720p and 1080i. Make sure you define you have a 16:9 TV.
