  1. Go to your control panel (start menu if it does not show click run then type control panel in and hit enter) go to sounds and audio devices and then turn your sound up. If you want the icon in the corner check the box that says place volume icon in taskbar.

  2. FIRST try the simple solutions. Check if your speaker wires are plugged into the proper ports.

If you are unsure, it won't hurt to try different configurations.

(If you hear sound from other devices such as playing a CD or the "Microsoft Sound" when starting up or shutting down, then the speakers are wired correctly.)

If this is OK then try...

Go to your "Device Manager" (Right click on ‘My Computer', select 'Properties', click the 'Hardware' tab, click the 'Device Manager' button. Click the "Sound video and game controllers"). If there is some kind of a "Warning" icon superimposed on the 'speaker' icon there is your problem!

Click on the blue icon on the second row looks like a key in front of a monitor that says "Scan for hardware changes" when you hover your mouse on it.

If no "Warning" icons then try...

    One at a time...

Double click on each of the devices that have 'Audio' in the listings.

Click the "Properties" tab; look for any "Warning" icons

Uninstall the DRIVERS for THAT DEVICE only. See instructions below.

Click on the faulty device and hit the "remove" button, follow the instructions given by the program.

Shutdown, restart, the device will automatically reinstall by the "Found New Hardware" program.

  3. My speakers did the same exact thing. whatever name brand your computer is, go to google type in the brand name and support (for example type in 'Gateway support')

  4. go to the CONTROL PANEL --> SOUNDS AND DEVICES --> uncheck the MUTE option there ... u'll get ur sound back ...

or maybe ... ur speakers got disconnected ... check the wiring ... !

    ..

    gud luck !
