I've never been on the VTA Light Rail before but I want to take it later today from Almaden to San Jose Convention Center. What do I do when I get to the Almaden station?? I really don't know anything. How do I get ticket? Do I give my ticket to someone when I get on the Train? Do I need to buy 2 tickets if I am transferring??? Just give me enough info so I don't completely get lost and miserable.... Thank you~~

  1. VTA.org for all the answers.

Every light rail station has a ticket machine which prints a variety of tickets - single ride, all-day pass, 8-hour LR pass,  or youth or senior tickets.  Note that the machines only take cash.

Your best bet is an 8-hr pass ($3.50-adults, $3-youth or $1.50-senior/disabled.)

Tickets are checked by transit officers who ride the trains on a random basis.  Just show the ticket when asked for.  If you don't buy a ticket but try to ride anyway, the fine is a lot more than the ticket price:  up to $250 and/or community service.
