How to rip a movie from a dvd disc to my computer?

Question

I want to rip a movie off of a dvd so that I can put it on my ipod, but I don't know how to do it. Im guessing the file size is too big to put on my ipod anyway, but help would be appreciated

iPod can only support mpeg4 video.
