I've just bought a new computer which uses Linux (the most recent version). I'm used to Windows!

I've downloaded Avast (for use with Linux) but can't find it anywhere. It is installed (found using search) but can't figure out how to run it

Help?

  1. Click on it in the search thing and say what comes up does it offer to install it or what?

  2. Avast for Linux is run by command line from the Terminal using the "sudo" prefix. You are obviously new to Linux and for the time being do not worry too much about antivirus if using a standalone computer ie. you are not part of a network with Windows machines. Please read the article on the attached link, written by an "expert".Good luck!!http://www.linux.com/articles/60208

  3. Linux has dozens of distributions, so i don't know which one it is. (a distribution is a class of linux. there are dozens of them) Luckily, I run Ubuntu Linux, which is one dell ships.  If you are running Ubuntu, go to their site and re download the whole CD.

Basically any of the distributions you can go to the site and re download and burn to a disk, except for one- Red Hat.

I'm not going to say anything, but they are under heavy criticism for taking a free software and making profit off of it.

    Redhat should have recovery disks.
