Question:

How to run a mile at a faster pace?

Ok, so today, I just ran the mile for my field hockey tryouts, and got 9:02. This surprised me, because last spring, my time was 8:44. Also, the coaches said that we should be able to run about an 8 minute mile, or less. I told mu dad about this, and he said it's because I run at a slower pace, to make the mile easier for myself, and that I should only run a slow pace after I get tired from running at a faster pace. Are there any tips you could give me to help me run at a faster pace, because it's a little difficult for me to run faster than my routine pace. Please and thank you!

  1. Personally, I always try to run at least twice as much as what's expected of me when I have my own time.  I'm in the Air Force and we have to run 1 1/2 miles during our physical training test so I make sure during the year I run at least 3 miles.  You'll find that you will have been so used to running longer distances that you will naturally run shorter distances (like your 1 mile run) at a much faster pace than you did before.

  2. You can work out on your legs and your upper body (probably stomach and biceps). If you keep on working out then running a mile should be easier and u wont get tired as easy to run in a slow pace

  3. I'm a track runner and it is helpful to run every day, also start at a slow pace and near the end speed it up. it works my last mile time was 4:30 so this is what my track couch told me.

    hope it helps

  4. start doing daily jogs around your neighborhood or at a local track. try to push your self a little more each time, bring a stop watch and time your self. and remember to stay hydrated.
