I don't like the term break as i think it is the wrong way to train a horse.... so i am looing for an alternative way to Saddle train my horse. i havent long had her and her previous owners were apparently just training her to be backed but i dont not know how far they were with that. she is 4 turning five and i know she is going to be a tough one to train, i have already started pressure training but do not know where to go next... should i start from the beggining? or try to carry on where the previous owners left off? and any hints or tips will be appreciated

  1. Start at the beginning. I am figuring that you have never broke a horse before? The thing I want to caution you on is your safety. Everything you do has to be with your and her safety in mind. Remember a horse is a herd animal with a pecking order. If you are low on her list you will get hurt. I do not 'break' horses I 'gentle' them. I started cowboy breaking like most people. What do you mean the owner's trained her to be 'backed'? Do you mean she is halter broke? Halter is a long way from the saddle and it may be a good idea for you to find a trainer with experience. Five year old horses are a little more difficult because they are older and more set in their minds how things are going to be. If she is by herself (no other horses) chances are You are her pecking order and you aren't the boss horse....Be careful. You don't say how old you are and that is important too. If you are young and heal fast and don't have to earn a living, go for it! You have to start somewhere. If that's not the case - hire a trainer - do yourself and your horse a favor!

  2. take it slow once the horse i comftorable with you them sack it out untill it dosent ming slowly put the saddle on and once the horse dosent mind start with the straps just go realt slow
