Question:

How to safely remove a birds nest?

Three birds have built a nest above my doorway. They leave the BIGGEST mess and I want to get rid of them. How do I go about safely removing the next to another location. I don't want to take away their home but I can no longer deal with the mess. They tend to fly at you when you leave the house, so I am not sure how they would react to me taking their nest. Any suggestions? Is there a place I can call that will take care of this for me? Thanks.

  1. Firstly, I am sorry that two out of your three answers have to come from very rude people.

The third person to answer you was quite correct.  If you move it they will abandoned it and any eggs that are inside.

Do you know if this bird is a Wren?  The are notorious for building in the most inconvenient places.  If you can get a ladder and shine a flash light in side when the bird has left the nest you will see if there are any eggs.  .  If there are no eggs in there just take the nest down and put it somewhere near by and not so inconvenient for you.  She may use the nest again.  I have known them do that, but rarely.  Wrens often build two or three nests at the same time.

Right now I have a Wren with a nest in my hanging plant by the front door and she also has one in the lilies in my window box.   She does not  have eggs in either of them.  Obviously deciding which nest she prefers.

A Wren can build a new nest in an afternoon.

So if there are no eggs in the nest it is a not a problem.

I am happy that you were concerned enough about the bird to ask the question in the first place.

    Enjoy your day!

  2. u suck

  3. Awww that is so sad that you have to move them. I would wait it out until they migrate in the winter. Is it possible for you to exit out the back of the house? or through a side door?

If you move their nest they will most likely not use it because it will be out in the open or in an area that may not be to their liking. I'm afraid they may die if there are baby birdies.

    Good luck either way.

  4. The best thing you can do is wait until the next becomes empty, nearer the winter months.  Then you wont be hurting any birdies.  Clean up the mess then.

Next year just be on top of things.  If you notice the birds trying to rebuild in the same spot, then move it before they lay the eggs.

  5. I would check and see if the birds have already layed eggs or have little ones. If so I would just leave it till the young one can fly then you can completely remove it. If they haven't layed eggs yet, you can remove it to a near by tree but, I'm not sure if that'll work, the birds may just start building it over again. You can always get one of those plastic owls. Place it by the door

  6. You can't move the nests....I am sooo sorry. If you move the birds' nests, the human scent will leave a strong trail and the birds do not like that. The mother and father will sadly not come back if you touch the nest. Then, you'd have to take care of the eggs. You don't want that, do you? So, I would advise you to just deal with the mess. It should only be a couple of weeks-3 at the most.

  7. Have a little faith and patience they won't be there long........

I think most of your answers indicate or suggest not to move them as do I.

In my 70 years I've learned a couple of things

I now appreciate the BENEFITS of dandelions

I also learned to appreciate the benefits of the moles.

No matter how unsightly they seem to some, they have a purpose and it's not always just meant to be destructive or irritate people.  It's a matter of changing how you look at things.

Good Luck to you and maybe you'll get to enjoy watching the baby birds grow up.

I'm of the belief that maybe they are not the ones that chose your house maybe it was God that chose you to change how you see things.

  8. get up where you can see if there's eggs in the nest or not... if not, then just take the nest and dispose of it..... if there are eggs, then you get to decide.... keep or toss.... if you remove it and the birds start to try to build another one, you will have to keep taking away everything they bring until they give up.... you can try to place 'something' in the area where they want to build to make there be no room for the nest... just make sure they cannot build on THAT!!.... leave ti there long enuff for the birds to give up.....

  9. This should work for you but yo shouldnt do this with baby birds or eggs in th nest

  10. omg thats mean
