Question:

How to safely shrink a shirt?

Over the weekend, I bought a few new shirts. However, two of them fit a little undesirably. They happen to be a bit too large (not incredibly so) and the collars are, likewise, slightly large. I've heard about washing on the hottest setting then drying the snot out of them, but what does "drying the snot out of them" entail? How long should they be left in the dryer to dry? Are there limits to how long certain shirts should be in the dryer before causing serious damage?

Any relevant input is greatly appreciated.

P.S. both shirts are 100% cotton.

  1. next time buy shirts that fit...i'm not the expert on shrinking things but i hope it works out.

  2. wash them in hot water and dry them on high.

  3. wash them.

  4. Keep doing what you're doing. But iron the shirt with a hot iron while it's damp, then put it in the dryer. It isn't as dangerous as it sounds, trust me.

Push the iron from the outer edges of the garment toward the inside so that the garment is not inadvertently stretched as you iron.
