I live in Texas where it gets into the 95 plus range everyday, well I have been having a problem washing my colors because they all keep bleeding into each other. I wash them on the cold setting, but it is sssooo hot that on the cold setting the water is pretty warm. So pretty much I am washing my colors in hot water!! So how can I save them?

And FYI even when done in early morning hours the water is still hot!

  1. Try the Shout Color Catcher.

Also try loads that are literally all the same color, instead of whites, mediums and darks.  Do Blacks, Reds, whites, ect.  Your loads will be smaller, but it's frustrating when your favorite most comfortable shirt is ruined.

  2. Try adding a little vinegar to the wash.  Vinegar sets colors and might help with the bleeding.

If your water is really hot, try washing a load of whites first and use the hot water there where you need it.  Then, wash your colored load second when the water isn't as hot from the pipes.

You could try showering first and saving electricity on your water heater by using up that hot water where you need some hot water.  Or watering your garden with the hose before starting a load of laundry.

  3. Try putting a cup of white vinegar with your load of laundry.  Vinegar is a good way to keep colors from bleeding.
