How to say 'hello' 'how are you' in philippine's langauge ?

I'm visting Manila in few weeks and want to learn few phrases like

    how are you = hay nako, sori natrapik na naman ako, 'lika kape muna tayo.  o nanood ka ba ng news kagabi.  aba si hurricane gustav ay palapit na sa new orleans.  dami na ang nag-evacuate.  hay nako katakot ano?

    bye = nga pala, ako sagot sa kape natin sa starbucks bukas ha.  nga pala nood tayo ng sine mamaya, libre kita sa banana-q at sago.


  2. You can use the above answers if you are only trying to visit Manila. Using Tagalog is the national language of the Philippines. Don't be surprise if you go North 80 kms of Manila and find people using different dialect because there are many languages being used in the Philippines. But in general prefer using Tagalog.

  3. 1. hello how are you - (there is no exact translation for hello)

    "hello,kumusta ka" if it refers to one person only or "kumusta po kayo" if they are many.

    2.thank you - salamat, salamat po.

    "po" is used for people who are older or in higher position than you. a sign of respect.

    3. bye - paalam, paalam po

    you could also add these phrases:

    1. if they ask you how are you, then you could answer with "mabuti po", meaning good or i'm fine.

    2. yes - oo (pronounce it as o-o)

    3. no - hindi

    you don't really need to know all of these, I mean, most/many people in the Philippines, especially in the big cities such as Manila, speak English...
