Question:

How to select a President (UK and EU)?

The post of british prime-minister is becoming more and more presidential.

The EU have decided that they will have a president whether the people want it or not.

Now, I have been bored to death with the coverage of Hillary/Obama - its none of my business who the americans end up with as president - Just let me know who finally gets the job!

However it did show how much scrutiny the US system subjects candidates to - as opposed to the close, secretive, unrepresentative process the EU president will be subjected to.

Shouldn't candidates for the EU presidency go through a similar process to that in the USA?

  1. I think the US process is a shambles. They concentrate far to much on the celebrity side of a president and hoopla rather then the actual issue's.

Can anyone name me a couple of Obama's policies?

  2. yes they should.

  3. no,the European Union is a treaty-based institutional framework established to mange economic and political welfare. also the european union addresses the people's needs, (Democratic system).

  4. No president in the UK

and the eu can get stuffed!.

  5. The American way is so expensive and so American, do we really want to go that way.

  6. You should be interested as the President of USA is a very powerful leader and in some wys dictates how the rest of the world is run. He/she certainly has a puppet in the UK primeminister

  7. totally agree with you

  8. You may have been bored with the Hillary/Barack saga, but at least it has generated interest and each one has been put under the microscope showing warts and all.

Good to see live debate too.

A bit of that wouldn't go amiss over here instead of the 'spin-wrapped' package that is presented.

The flip side is the cost of the razzmatazz.  would we all be prepared to contribute?

I begrudge paying tax at present, but if I helped choose a good, open and smart under pressure person as President I might not resent it so much.

We hardly see any of our MPs electioneering.  They seem afraid to expose themselves to public off the cuff questioning.

bruce m, I await the Irish vote with interest.  Hope it's 'no'.  That will put the cat among the pigeons.

  9. god forbid we do get an EU president. let's hope Ireland prevent this one.
