my friend owns a car, but the title is on his and his uncles name(cosigned for him for auto loan). Is there anyway that he can sell the car without changing the title to his name. Can he sell a title less car? Any possible solutions to sell the car?

  1. What is between his name and his uncle?  If it's "and" they would both have to sign.  If it's "or" he can do it himself without problem.

But since cars are sold and transferred by title, there is no way it can sell it (except for parts) without a title.

  2. Both him and his uncle would have to sign the papers to sell the car.  That shouldn't be a problem, right?  To change the paperwork to just his name, essentially, (technically) his uncle and him would "sell" the car to just him.  It's the same transaction (with an associated transaction fee).  So why "sell" it to himself, only to turn around and "sell" it to someone else - why not just sell it to someone else and have him and his uncle both sign.

If the uncle is dead, etc. you may need to provide a death certificate.

  3. No. The title must change with the ownership of the car.

    No title- no tag.

  4. No, he can't.  You legally can't sell a car, without the title.

He can't sell this, becuase he doesn't fully OWN it.  You can't sell something that belongs to someone else.  That's called, stealing their car.   But he, also, can't sell this car without your signature.

You have to make peace with him, to sell the car.

  5. you friend is a part owner of the car. His uncle has to give him his half before he owns it all to himself.

You can forge the uncles name on the title and sell it that way.
