How to send Money from India?.?

I am staying abroad. I received an Indian bank cheque from my friend in India ....which is the amount he suppose to return me. But the local bank here doesn't accept the Cheque ( amount in Indian rupees ). Later he also found from the Indian bank....it is difficult to send the amount in dollars. But I want to use the money here. Can any one please tell me...is there any way to send money from India?.
