  1. Hopefully they wouldn't speak pigeon English not like the way you write. Mayday! Mayday! Mayday! This is flight........ blah de blah de blah.

  2. Just to correct one bit of misinformation -- a commercial airliner should not squalk mayday (enter 7700 into the transponder) unless it encounters an emergency while it has no voice communication with air traffic control. Changing your transponder setting just makes it more difficult for ATC to establish which aircraft you are.

If you are already radar identified and in communication with ATC (which a commercial airliner would normally always be), you simply state the word "mayday" three times, identify yourself, the station you are calling, and then you state your emergency.

I don't believe a 737 that lost one engine would normally make a mayday call. (Assuming they were at a reasonable altitude and the engine wasn't on fire or anything.)

A mayday call is for an emergency, an immediate danger to life. The next step down is an urgency. The next step down is a request for priority or special handling.

  3. You call the nearest control center and announce "MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY" - you then identify which aircraft you are and the nature of the emergency. The rest of the pilots on your frequency will clear the frequency and air traffic control will take over all communication with you.

  4. shout mayday mayday into radio

  5. first thing, of course...u shout MAYDAY to air traffic control...the alternative thing you can do it type "7700" in the cockpit so signify that the aircraft is in danger...only do this when neccessary though!!
