  4. Separating the nucleus from the electrons is the same as separating the electrons from the nucleus.

    Very large electric fields will strip the electrons off.

  5. I wouldn't recommend hitting the nucleus with something because that will split the nucleus into fragments -- i.e. nuclei of two different elements. And once you've split the nucleus, then unless you go into the core of a really huge star and perform nuclear fission, or have a supernova bring it back to its original form, then there's no way to get it back to the original nucleus.

    I think the best way of accomplishing this is to remove the electrons instead. It will take a lot of energy (and I mean, a LOT), but I think its easier to move the smaller electrons than the larger, heavier nucleus.
