Question:

How to set limits on what I discuss about my work and career with a new friend at workplace?

There is a guy at my workplace who is quite a good person but he doesn't care nor understand things such as workplace politics' related pitfalls. He just can't keep our private conversation about people and projects to himself rather starts to playback everything we discuss in front of others which is something I don't like. He is a very simple and nice person but some of his qualities are taking a toll on our friendship in a subtle way. Is there anyway to draw lines?

  2. do him and yourself a favor and tell him you can't talk with him confidentially anymore because he can't keep his mouth shut.  don't trust this person (nice, my a**), he's immature and has no judgment.  then follow through and don't talk to him in anything but very general and positive terms.  no gossip, no confidential info, etc.  BTW your own judgment has to be called into question if you speak with a new person about stuff that perhaps shouldn't be divulged.
