  1. If your grandparents live in your basement then just go with a LAN.

If you are talking about a mile down the road you could look up Pringles can WIFI antenna and build one.  More than likely it would be a violation of your broadband contract and you may be violating other laws as well.

Other than that it would be cheaper to just have them get there own broadband connections.

You may as well set up remote assistance since you will be fixing their computer all the time.

  2. Wide Area Network is not suitable for private individuals and the cost would be more than paying for your grandparents to have their own broadband connection. Go on treat them

  3. WAN is the internet & that is already set up.

You want a LAN or local area network, to include your gp's.

You'll need  to connect a router to the ISP line (wireless if  they are next door or down the block a short way) and then set the properties of the router for WPA encryption; give the gp's the password to get on.

They will need a wireless card (for desktops) or most laptops have this built in.  Look in their computer hardware properties to determine if they have a NIC card to handle the protocols for networking, to.

  4. Sorry, you can not setup a WAN, bacause WAN is concern with more then two countries, and it need communaction authorities approval, the best example of WAN is internet, no one owns it.

What you want is LAN (Local Area Network),

The best  thing is to provide them with the same ISP confrigation and share the network.
