My computer is a HP Compaq Presario 2700t running linux. It's ethernet is an "82801CAM (ICH3) PRO/100 VE (LOM)" The bios is something like PhionixBiosSetup. I could not find any setting for Wake-on-Lan in the Bios. There wasn't even a power management section. I do know the ethernet supports Wake-on-Lan because i ran ethtool and it said Wake-on-Lan support = "g". Which means i can receive "magic "packets. I also know my computer is recieving something because every time i put it in sleep mode and send the "magic packet" from another computer, i can start the computer back up (because Wake-on-Lan doesn't work) run ifconfig and the rx packets # goes up. (along with the one other packet... I cant remember the other name right now) Also the log that the router keeps shows that the packets were allowed by the rules, but the packets were "dropped". What does that mean? That the destionation computer did not accept/receive them? If you need more info, contact me. Thanks in advance!

  1. Typically WOL uses port 7 or 9. You can try this service http://rshut.com/products/wol/ to send WOL packet on any other port to test your router. Also there are some rules on this site what changes to made in your router so it will pass WOL command. Hope this will help.

  2. The firewall is not allowing the packets for wake on lan. Try it with the firewall off. I am not sure what port the w-o-l uses, but you will need to set a firewall accept for this.
