How to set up a recylcing program for an apartment complex?

I live in an apartment complex with a few hundred units. The complex lacks any sort of recycling. In other words, there are only garbage disposables available. I was wondering if any one else has had been in the same situation and been able to implement a recycling system for the whole complex. How would I go about doing something like this? Is the decision to not have recycling made by the government or the complex management? Who should be the first person I contact?

Thanks.

  1. The first thing you should do is talk to the city to see if they will come and pick it up if you separate it (and what the by-laws are that relate to that). If the city will come pick it up etc... then you should talk to the management of the building. In some places it is required by law to have a place for recycling but landlords just don't do it.

  2. You first need to talk to the management and request that they talk to the trash company that they use. Most trash companies will do a recycling program for apartment complexes, the management just has to be willing to set it up.Then a notice should be sent to all residents making them aware of the new recycling program.I hope you get your program started. Recycling is very important!!!
