  1. Sliders, Cooters , painted ,map and yellow bellied are require the same care and feeding. I have two that are 36 yrs old!! Plus an 8 and 5 yr old.

I have had them in a pond for about 6 yrs now..

They need at least a 55 plus tank for two.

A great filter..Penguin. Marineland are go. The more water flow per minute the best.

A good rep light to bask up to 10 hrs a day which they get their vitamin D.

Gravel larger than they can eat.In the wild they dig for worms and such and can eat the gravel by mistake.

Get some amquel for the feeder fish when you drop them in the tank they don't die. Get guppies, minnows goldfish the turtles will get thier portien and calcuim from the fish. For a 55 plus tank 5o would be good. They will get theri exercise by chasing their meals.

Leafy greens to get the vitamins and minerals they need 3 to 4 times a week.

**At Walmart they even have a 55 tank in a box..you would get the rep light and large gravel there also and everything else just cheaper..

Petco has everything you need at a higher price.

If you shop on line 'Drsfostersmith.com' has their 25th anniversary sale and its great!  Anything and everything you need.

  2. well you could get rocks from lowes 50 lbs for 3 bucks get a basking area from a petshop a basking light for basking and an undergravel filter works great for turtles

  3. You will need an appropriately sized tank, I probably wouldn't go with anything less than a 20 gallon for those size turtles or you could just get a 55 gallon so you won't have to upgrade later because they will get bigger!  You can get an internal filter. Zoomed makes a good one.  You will need to make it semi aquatic (I'm assuming these are aquatic turtles you have.)  It's needs to have about 3-4 inches of water or at least where they can totally be submerged if they want and half the tank needs to be out of the water, but gradually so they can crawl up easily.  The dry side they will bask in so you will need a daytime light.  Also a thermometer would be good so you know that their habitat isn't too hot or too cold.  Here is a link to Petsmart's care guide for aquatic turtles that's got some good info on it.  Also you can go on their website and price what you will need.  I'd estimate around $60-75 depending on what you decide to start with.  Good luck with your babies!

  4. It depends on the type of turtles and whether they are aquatic, semi aquatic, etc.  I have a  one year old Red Eared Slider with a 7" shell length.  She is in a 55 gallon aquarium with a turtle ramp by Novalek.  Above the ramp is a UVB bulb and a 60 watt red heat bulb.  I use the Rena Filstar XP3 undertank filter and I use a Python system to clean out the tank when needed.  As far as flowers and plants, if you want to use them I would get plastic ones because some turtles have a tendency to eat silk ones.  I feed mine Reptomin and red leaf lettuce.  All of the items can be purchased at Petsmart or any other reptile store.  Check out www.austinsturtlepage.com for more information.
