  1. Well it i dont know what kind of system your talking about, but i did mine like this. Panels on the roof wired into a Controller that charges a grid of batteries. the DC electricity from the Batteries then goes through a converter that changes the current into AC and then goes to a breaker box then through my house. but that is just one way to wire one up.

  2. With current technology it will take 30 years or more for your energy savings to pay for the cost of the photovoltaic cells needed to power your home. By that time the cell efficiency will be very low. You could try to devise a system based on solar thermal energy instead of converting the sunlight directly into power. You use mirrors (ideally curved or parabolic mirrors) to focus sunlight onto an overhead pipe filled with water. As the heat boils the water, the steam turns a turbine to produce electricity. The water then condenses and can be used again. You can use the stored heat to heat your home and to heat water as well.  The drawback is you need to either monitor the system and keep it facing the sun appropriately or add an automated system to do the same.

I don't know of any kit on the market using this technology but hopefully one will be available soon since it may be much less expensive and easier to maintain than photo cells.
