How to set up sky hd with suround sound (home cinema)?

I have sky hd to tv via hdmi, home cinema to tv via hdmi, optical joining sky hd to home cinema, speaker test works, cables connected, sky set to DD suround and button for home cinema i press AUX so it should work but its not why not ?

Usually the optical input is under a different thing other that aux.Aux usually refers to the phono plugs.Does your surround system have on-screen-display? maybe you need to alter the input.

you need to set the 5.1 to the optical  input for it to work aux is the inputs for the composite (AV )  cables
