Question:

How to set up visit to the UK?

Has anyone set up travel for themselves to visit the UK? I'm an American citizen planning on staying 3 months, and have more than enough money to support myself without employment or public funds during my stay ($20,000). 'How' and 'Who' do I show this evidence to pass through british clearance officers. Do I need to fill out/apply for an application. I've gone on official UK sites, but they only list and explain WHAT I'm required to show to pass clearance as a visitor, but not HOW I go about doing these things. I dont want to buy my ticket and arrange a hotel, then get refused to enter the UK because I just 'didnt know' about something.

If anyone could give any information/experiences/ect., it would be a huge help.

Thank you, and sorry if this is confusing to anyone.

  1. JUST A VALID PASSPORT FOR NO MORE THAN 6 MONTHS STAY

  2. what are you talking about.

buy an e-ticket on line and just go. i assume you have a passport? you do not even need a visa. just show your passport at immiragtion and your in. suggest you  find accomodation when you get there .if you are a student.hang out at universities and you will be invited to stay with other students while you travel around for free.. unless you plan on going first class and staying at five star hotels , you will not need $20,000 dollars.

never ever change US$ into another currency, it is a rip off.

do not travel with cash like that. keep all your money in your bank in the states and use your debit card at atms. ATMs will give you local currency. it will figure out the exchange rate and a better bank rate.

    use credit cards.

travel light. you can always but clothes there.

  3. Well, in simple terms you need to prove that you can financially support yourself. This can be done through bank statements and/or pay slips.

You should also confirm your accommodation whilst in the UK, ie a hotel booking would be the best way to do this

You also need to prove that you don't intend to stay any longer than what is permitted. The best way of doing this is to have a return ticket so they know when you will be leaving. If you have employment back home that you intend to return to you can also give them this information.

You will go through passport control. If they feel they wish to ask you more questions you will be taken to an interview room where you will have to give them all this information.

Most likely though you will not have any issues at all at passport control and won't even have to go through these procedures, so don't worry too much.

    Good luck!
