How to setup a new fishing rod and prevent unwinding and tangling of the nylon line of the reel?

Assuming it's a spinning reel; make sure the line comes off of the side of the spool of line onto the reel spool. Be sure that it winds onto the reel spool in the same direction that it comes off the line spool.

Assuming it's a casting reel; make sure the line comes off the top of the spool as the spool turns, because that's the way it goes onto the reel spool.

put the line on the reel fairly tight, do not fill the spool to the top with line this will cause over-runs  or birds nests keep it 3mm below the top of the spool, then have a few practice casts just to get the line to sit evenly on the spool all depends what type of reel you are using ie fixed spool or multipyer
