  1. They always had off-post places that sewed on chevrons and insignia when I was in the service.  I never did it myself except for PFC stripes, which I had replaced by a professional sewing job as soon as possible.

  2. I checked the latest Army Regs available on the internet by clicking on the source link I posted below. Unfortunately, it is a 2005 version and does not address the ACU uniform completely.

Since I get the impression you are serving in an Army unit, ask your company clerk for the current version of Army Uniform Regulations (AR 670-1) and check there.

  3. Basic answer, 2 fingers from the brim, centered.

  4. Take it to the place on base where they dry clean the class A's.  Usually Clothing Sales has a sewing shop.  It'll cost $2, and your platoon sergeant will probably let you do it during the duty day.

  5. I've taken my things into a local seamtress that was located near our base. She's done tons of things and knows where they need to go. Lots of people use her so that they are acurate and look good.

  6. Take your hat to the local cleaners.  They are familar with the Army standard and will square you away.  Shouldn't cost more than a dollar

  7. If you can't figure it out, borrow someone else squared and used theirs or even better just take it to a sew shop.

It should be centered top to bottom and left to right according to AR 670-1 (everyone head is different). Some people ew it right on the cap band, others right above. it will depend on how big your hat is. Just make sure the rank isn't not 1 inch wide or 2 inches long (unless your like a 4 star general)

5D2. THE ACU PATROL CAP. THE ACU PATROL CAP IS WORN WITH THE ACU IN FIELD ENVIRONMENTS WHEN THE KEVLAR HELMET IS NOT WORN, ON WORK DETAILS, OR IN OTHER ENVIRONMENTS WHERE THE WEAR OF THE BERET IS IMPRACTICAL AS DETERMINED BY THE COMMANDER. PERSONNEL WEAR THE ACU PATROL CAP STRAIGHT ON THE HEAD SO THAT THE CAP BAND CREATES A STRAIGHT LINE AROUND THE HEAD, PARALLEL TO THE GROUND. THE PATROL CAP WILL FIT SNUGLY AND COMFORTABLY AROUND THE LARGEST PART OF THE HEAD WITHOUT DISTORTION OR EXCESSIVE GAPS. THE CAP IS WORN SO THAT NO HAIR IS VISIBLE ON THE FOREHEAD BENEATH THE CAP. SEWN OR PIN ON RANK IS WORN ON THE ACU PATROL CAP. THE LAST NAME TAPE WILL BE WORN CENTERED ON THE HOOK AND LOOP PADS ON THE BACK OF THE ACU PATROL CAP.

  8. Didn't they give you a book of instructions?

  9. alright, it's actually not that bad, it would be a lot easier if the rank was left on in the first place, however if not the actual rank needs to be centered on the bill and on the front if that makes sense, there should be a vertical seam in the front that is pretty much right on center.  As for the sew on rank, fold both top and bottom and try and make it about same distance to rank on both.
