How to share files between a mac and a pc?

I use an Ethernet cable to connect my PC to a MacBook Pro. How can I enable file sharing between the two of them? XP is installed on the PC, and I am running mac os x 10.4 (tiger) on the mac. can u help me please?

In order to access shared files on a Windows XP computer (or any computer running SMB) from a Mac, the Mac will need to "connect" to the Windows XP computer and "mount" the shared files.
