Question:

How to shed fat, & then build muscle?

I'm a sixteen year old guy, I weigh roughly 165 lbs, and I'm about 5' 8-10" .

I have a real flabby stomach, and I want to try to lose the fat on my stomach, and the fat in my thighs. What are some good ways to lose the fat in these areas, but without losing the muscle in the other parts of my body. I know I cant spot treat the areas I listed above, but I want to find some sort of way to eventually shed the fat in the area. How long would it take for myself to lose the fat? What types of things should i do to lose the fat? Also, some tips on healthy eating would be much appreciated.

Once I lose the fat, I would need to build up the muscle in those areas. How would I go about trying to build the muscle in those areas? Some muscle building exercise ideas would be helpful as well.

Thanks for the eventual help, and I truly appreciate it.

  1. Eat 6 smaller meals, instead of the 3 square meals you are used too, with the calories divided evenly, this will kick start your metaobolic rate thus burning fat even while you rest. Eat high protein, moderate carbs and low-fat diet. Good protein choices are chicken (skin removed), turkey, tuna (or salmon), lean beef (or pork), shrimp, tofu, milk, eggs, cottage cheese, beans, legumes and all kinds of nuts (high in fat but it's unsaturated and full of aminos and nutrients). For carbs go with whole wheat bread (or pasta), brown or wild rice (white rice is okay), oatmeal, potatoes, yams (or sweet potatoes), and corn are some good options. Eat lots of friuts and veggies, it contains fiber, vitamins and minerals. Drink 8 (8 ounces) cups of water everyday. No sodas (if you must get the diet version, 0 calories). Exercising is a must, one hour a day, do both cardio and resistant training. One day you can do one hour of weight training and the next day one hour of intense cardio, or you can mix it up, like half hour of weight training and half hour of cardio. Take 2 days off a week for recovery. To get toned and cut up, it's all diet and exercise to get that 6 pack. It's a myth that doing thousands of crunches will get you a six pack, it won't because you need the burn the fat off your body to see what's under it, the defined six pack that everyone already has and that's all cardio.

    Good Luck!

  2. It's different for everyone to lose fat. I would say just keep working until you eventually do and don't give up! Cardio would be the way to lose fat. You know, like running or jump roping. To build muscle: You can really google all this actually, or go to a local 24 hr fitness or whatever gym, and talk to people on what they do, and watch what type of exercises they do.  Eating healthy will help you lose fat too. Eat more fruit and vegetables and try to stay away from carbs such as bread. Also, instead of eating 3 big meals a day, try eating small 6 meals per day. Good luck and hope this somehow helps you.

  3. START BLKIN WILL BUILD MUSCLE AND TONE THE BODY

  4. Hi, I'm about 165 also, 5'8'', 18 years old. I recently lost 40 pounds, so I've been doing something right. But, Its very unhealthy to lose more than 4 pounds a week. I would aim for 2 pounds to lose weekly, any more than that and you will get stretchmarks, loose/saggy skin and will likely gain it back.

You answered your own question as far as loosing fat in a target area, you can't! If you want to loose fat, you must loose it everywhere. All you can do is build muscle in that area, which will firm it up a bit, but not remove fat.

What I did to loose most my weight was diet, I really never exercised to be honest. I stopped drinking all soda (diet or not!). I have found flavored water to be decent so I'm not drinking tap water 24/7. Water is a key element to weight loss. I no longer eat ground beef, instead I go for leaner ground turkey meat. Stay away from really fatty milks and cheeses. I have got used to Soy milk. Also, for a small healthy meal, Boca makes soy chicken patties, burgers, hot dogs and they taste pretty d**n good to be honest. Stink to whole grain breads and pasta if you can.

Remember to chew your food really well, you got to remind yourself or you forget really easy. Its easier for your body to process food if its broken down more. This is why when your sick and you eat nothing but liquids, you lose a lot of weight because liquid food is easily processed by your body.

Good luck man! I'm planning to lose about 10 more pounds myself, hope you reach your goal also.
