How to sign in 2 profiles on a xbox 360?

I need some help with my xbox 360 me and my brother want to face each other on gears of war. but when i click versus and something else it says i have to sign in 2 gamer proflies how is that possible without the other one signing out?and i don't have xbox live either

WITH THE CONTROLLER NOT SIGNED IN HIT THE BIG X BUTTON IN THE MIDDLE AND IT WILL PULL UP THE SCREEN THEN CLICK ON THE PROFILES SCROLL DOWN TO THE 1 U WANT AND HIT THE A BUTTON THAT IS IT
