I REALLY WANT TO SING AND FOR SOME REASON, I SOUND VERY GOOD WHEN I LAY DOWN ON MY BACK..I SOUND EXTREMELY GOOD ACTUALLY...AND THEN AFTER I DO THIS FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES I CAN STAND UP AND SOUND JUST AS WELL...IS THIS A GOOD PRACTICE TECHNIQUE?? WILL I EVENTUALLY BE ABLE TO SING WELL WITHOUT LAYING DOWN??

  1. hmmm....

let's see... when you are laying down, you are relaxed and everything is aligned and in the proper singing posture. you will be able to sing well without laying down by doing what your doing standing up..easier said than done, i know. my choir director taught us stretches to do that do the same thing your doing lying down....

    here they are-

    1. stand up straight

2.stretch your arms above your head- like your reaching for the stars, or anything else... start with your left and then your right....

    3. lift your arms above your head and go all the way down to the floor then slowly come back up

    4. repeat # 3

    5. now lower your head down to your neck and slowly stretch from side to side-just don;t roll your head all the way back. you roll your head to the left and the right then back to the center...

    6. now we do shoulder rolls....raise your arms almost up to your ears and back down then go backwards...

    7. now raise your arms up and go back down to the floor slowly come back up and put your arms out from side to side.

you want to picture that you are carrying two heavy water buckets in each arm and you have to keep them straight.

8 let your arms fall down slowly to your sides and now you are in proper posistion to sing

also, if you can remember what you were thinking when you were laying down. that would help....

good luck!! hope this helps- i know where you are coming from as this is something i have worked at before

  2. That position changes the way you breathe somewhat, and you may also find your throat more open in that position as well. You are probably correct that you are finding yourself closer to your actual singing voice that way. But that does not really make good practice - you need to learn the proper techniques to access that good singing voice whenever you want it. The best thing you can do is find a singing teacher, who will teach you the techniques you need. If you're not able to do that, a good book or audio course on singing can go a long way to helping if you are dedicated to practicing, and those are not difficult to find.

If you want to sing, you certainly should, so go for it! Best of luck.

  3. Well when you sing lying down it's easier and more natural for you to breathe properly. So maybe if practice breathing with your diaphram it will help you sing better without lying down.

    Hope this helps!

  4. sorry

    laying down doesnt affect anything

  5. when lying down, you're automatically taking a singer's breath... by breathing through the diaphragm, and not lifting up the shoulders.

but i'm not sure if that would make you sound any different.
