  1. dear dear they r very simple!

  2. Look in the beginning of your book...sounds like you have SKIPPED SOME BASIC CLASSES. Or call a classmate or a tutor.

  3. 43

  4. Below are links to 3 good sites for instructions on how to handle fractions followed by a link for order of operations.

    Best of luck.

  5. I am not sure what you want for an answer here, will do my best with your limited info.

15/26 means 15 out of 26 or 15 divided by 26. ie Out of 26 coloured balls 15 are green. The  fraction of green balls is 15/26.

5/6 means 5 out of 6 or 5 divided by 6 the same as above.

To add fractions the denominators (or bottom numbers) must be the same ie you can't add 2/3 and 1/6. You must change the 2/3 to an equivalent fraction. To do this is easy in the example. You need to look for the lowest number that 3 and 6 will divide into. It just happens to be 6. to change your 2/3 into a number over 6 multiply both 3 and 2 by 2 (giving you 4/6). Now just add the top numbers (numerators)

    2/3 + 1/6 = 4/6 + 1/6 = 5/6

Likewise with subtraction the denominators must be the same. The lowest number for the denominator you can use here is 20 (5 X 4)

    so 3/4 - 2/5 = 3 X 5 divided by 4 X 5 subtract 3 X 4 divided by 5 X 4

    = 15/20 - 12/20  Now subtract the numerators

    = 3/20

Multiply fractions. Multiply the numerator (top numbers) together and the denominators (bottom numbers) together.  ie

    12/13 X 5/8 = 12 X 5 divided by 13 X 8 = 60/104.

You can simplify this by dividing both top and bottom by the same number if possible (in this case 4) 60/4 = 15      104/4 = 26.

    Your final answer is 15/26

Division of fractions is different again. You cannot divide with fractions so you take the second fraction, turn it upside down and multiply it with the first one.

    ie 2/3 divided by 6/7 = 2/3 X 7/6 = 14/18.

I would suggest you get your teacher to explain it further to you.  It is a tricky concept to grasp.

Good luck and get plenty of practise.

    Order of operations.

    Brackets

    Multiply and divide

    Add and subtract
