  1. divide by P1 and muliply by T1

    V1= ( P2V2/T2  ) T1/P1 = P2V2T1/(T2P1)

  2. P1 * V1 ...... P2 * V2

    ------------- = ---------------

    .... T1 ............ T2

    And you want to solve for V1.....

    Well.... if you had an equation like (4/3)X = ab/c..... how would you get "X" by itself????  You would multiply both sides by "3/4"... right?  because on the left side you will have 4/3 * 3/4 = "1"... getting "X" by itself.... and on the right side you will have (ab/c) * 3/4.....

    So given.....

    P1 * V1 ...... P2 * V2

    ------------- = --------------- .... and solving for V1.....

    .... T1 ............ T2

    to get V1 by itself on the left side.... you want to multiply both sides by "T1/P1"..... because P1/T1 * T1/P1 = 1..... leaving you with just V1 on the left side..... so this is how you isolate V1....

    P1 * V1 ...... P2 * V2

    ------------- = --------------- <==== your chemistry formula

    .... T1 ............ T2

    Now multiply both sides by T1/P1.... like this...

    P1 * V1 .... T1 ..... P2 * V2 ....... T1

    ------------- * ------ = --------------- * ----------

    .... T1 ....... P1 ......... T2 .......... P1

    The P1/T1 * T1/P1 on the left equals "1".... leaving you with just V1.... and you are left with.....

    ........ P2 * V2 * T1

    V1 = --------------------

    ............. T2 * P1

    Do you see how I did that?

  3. it actually depends on the problem...

    but first, replace those V1s, T1s etc. from the given in the problem.

    example, if temperature is asked, you transpose all of the other units to the other side of the equals sign, leaving T1 or T2 alone...

  4. do what you would do in normal equations.

    separate the v1 from the rest.

    multiply t1 to both sides and divide p1 from both sides.

    you get :

    v1= p2v2t1/t2p1
