How to solve the matiz problem of engine cutting when cold, and to increase mileage.

We own a 2000 daewoo matiz. Initially, the car was OK. But after a mechanic did something. The engine keeps going off and my husband increases the idling. After travelling a little distance, he says that the idling is too much and he then decreases it. The same thing happens every day. We have recently changed the exhaust pipe. Is there any way, we can solve the problem.

  1. Your car probably has a part called "Idle Air Control Valve" or IAC valve.  This part works like the choke did on the old carburetor engines.  It helps to keep the car running when the engine is cold.  After the engine gets warm, the IAC shuts off.  I don't know where you are located but this part can be pretty expensive (US150).

The question is:  How handy is your husband?  He can check the function of the IAC by putting battery voltage to it and see if it moves.  It is a simple electromechanical solenoid.

    I hope this helps!
