  1. Subtract cx from both sides (to get x terms together):

    ax - cx + b = d

    Subtract b from both sides (to get x terms alone):

    ax - cx = d - b

    Factor out an x:

    (a - c)x = d - b

    Dividie both sides by (a-c):

  2. ax - cx = d - b

    x(a-c) = d-b

    x = (d-b)/(a-c)
