  1. Given: f(x)= -3x-3

    What is f(x^2)? (f(x))^2

    f(x^2) = -3x^2 - 3 = - 3(x^2 - 1)

    (f(x))^2 = (-3x-3)^2 = (-3x-3)* (-3x-3) = 9X^2 +18X+9

  2. (a)

That means substitute x^2 in for x

    f(x^2) = -3(x^2) - 3 = -3x^2 - 3

    (b)

    f(x)^2 means to square f(x)

    f(x)^2 = (-3x-3)^2 = 9x^2 + 18x + 9

    take care,

  3. Well this is one way to approach the problem, not sure how you want this to be solved.

    f(x)= -3(x)-3

It's as simple as plugging the values.

    f(x^2) = -3(x^2)-3

    secondly...

    (f(x))^2

this means you would take the function of x which is -3(x)-3

    and square it.

    (f(x))^2 = (-3x-3)^2

    If you want to simplify

    (-3x-3)(-3x-3)= 9x^2 - 9x - 9x + 9

    or 9x^2 -18x + 9 in polynomial form

Depends on what your question specifically asked.

  4. f(x) = -3x - 3

    f(a) = -3a - 3

    f(a + b) = -3(a + b) - 3

    f(star) = -3(star) -3

    get it? so...

    f(x^2) = -3(x^2) - 3 = -3x^2 - 3

    --------------------------------------...

    f(x) = -3x - 3, so...

    (f(x))^2 = (-3x - 3)^2 = (-3x - 3)(-3x - 3) = 9x^2 + 18x + 9 (I foiled)
