  1. 3.4 i think... take the log of each side

    xlog5=log250

    x=log250/log5

  2. x = 2.430676558

    The first answer is close, but due perhaps to the missing "+" in "(x 1)" it isn't quite right.

    5^(x + 1) = 250....take the log of each side

    log [5^(x + 1)] = log (250)....log m^n = n * log m:  apply that to the left side

    (x + 1) * log (5) = log (250)....divide each side by log (5)

    x + 1 = [log (250)] / [log (5)]....subtract 1 from each side

    x = [log (250)] / [log (5)] - 1

    x = 2.430676558

    I wonder why so many people are lately leaving operators out of the equations they type. Is there something Yahoo is doing screwy? I have seen a very many missing "+" signs but some others as well. Perhaps people are paying way too much attention to those ignorant notes Yahoo offers as one types. No matter what, to help on your math questions Answerers MUST have all the operators. I've seen two questions just to day that were easy but no one had answered. Putting that together with noticing in the past that hard to read muck is often ignored rather than Answerers trying to figure out what is being asked, one guesses Questioners had better pay a LOT more attention to the final appearance of their Questions before committing them, if they want Answers that is.

    Sorry, but I think that's a darn good bet.

    By the way, Yahoo says there are two misspellings in the above. I copied and pasted into Word which does not find any. That's not utterly damning as its grammar checker thinks "Answerers MUST have all" should use "has" not "have" which is patently wrong, but still. Just ignore Yahoo's ignorance and check the final question for all those operators!
