Consider the following system. There is one inlet pipe going in a tank of water with a flow rate of 20L/min and it has diameter of 1 inch. And coming out of the tub an outlet pipe with diameter of 1.5 inch. To maintain a constant liquid level in the tank, what should be the volumetric flow rate Q2 (L/min)? Why?

  1. volumetric flow rate Q2 = 20L/min = same as inlet flow rate to maintain the same level.

If the inlet and outlet rates are =, the tank will maintain the same level.

  2. water in should be equal to water out to maintain the same level. this is incompressible fluid flow.
