I'm going to be waking up really early when school starts so I can play basketball because I probably wont have time after school. Is there a way I can sound proof my driveway so my neighbors dont wake up?

  1. Im sure you could put rubber on your driveway and that would help deaden the noise but you have to understand that it isnt just the concrete making the noise its also the ball.

When the ball hits the ground the sound resonates through the inside of the ball, usually you can point this noise out when it makes that ringing high pitched noise.

Also what are you going to do about the backboard? your ball almost always has to hit the backboard to make it in the hoop. so thats going to make some noise.

your best bet would be go to school early, I know alot of schools near me have hoops outside in the parking lot so if tha is an option I would say do that.

It wont cost you that fancy rubber to line your driveway.

or you could buy all your neighbors earplugs.

  2. It is not the concrete that makes the noise, it is your basket ball.

For example, bounce your basket ball on the concrete, then bounce a nerf ball and a base ball. You will notice the basket ball is much louder, mostly because it is hollow.

Anything you put on the concrete that will stop the sound will stop the ball from bouncing as well.

The only thing you can really do is to put up a sound barrier between you and them, and that is probably not realistic. You could always try and find a quieter ball.

  3. Short of coating the driveway with foam rubber, there is no practical solution working with the sound source.  The neighbors need the soundproofing in their house- heavy drapes and triple glazed windows.  Instead, be a good neighbor and play basketball at reasonable time or find a court away from residential buildings.

  4. their is multiple types of coatings available to deading sounds, although you proably will not acheive sound proof but sound levels will be decreased.

try finding these items by contacting concrete product supply places rather than home centers.
