Question:

How to spell this name?

If we have a baby girl, i'd like to name her Maria.

This is a very special name for me, with Religious meaning. I'm Roman Catholic.

The trouble is that we have many Maria's in my family, one of them is my sister, and also cousins, aunties etc..

Because of this it's not wise to have another Maria, because it is already difficult as it is!

So i thought i could name her Mariah. Do you like this name? Or should i write it like this Maraya?

I also like Mireya but i'm not sure that it has any connotation with the name Maria. Do you know if it's a derivation from Maria?

also i know that Maya is available, but my cousin just had a baby and named her Maya - so i can't call her that.

Marie and Maree? What about them?

What do you think?

  1. how about mariya or mari?

  2. Marina is pretty. It means 'from the sea.'

    It is also a saint's name. :-)

  3. I like Maraya spelled this way - cute.

And whomever suggested, Mia -- I like that too.

  4. Mariah sounds like mahrah-i-ah

    Where as

    Maria sounds like - mahree-ah

    Mariah 10 stars it's a great name

  5. Out of practicality, I see Marie or Mariah as working the best. They still have some roots in the name you want, but are different enough to be something else.

The alternate spellings look messy to me, like you were trying to be unique.

  6. I had never seen Mireya before so I looked it up and the site I found said it is a version of the name Miranda, not Maria? I'm not sure if thats right but I do agree it is difficult to figure out how to pronounce it.

I like Mariah a lot, and I like that spelling a lot better than Maraya. Its more common so its easier to pronounce and also just looks a little prettier IMO:)

    I like Marie also.

You are kind of lucky in that the name you want to use has probably more variations than any other girls name I've ever seen. Wikipedia has a few hundred versions I think. The list is reeeallly long but maybe you'll find something there you like. Check the name out first before deciding on it though because Wikipedia isn't always entirely accurate.

  7. Mariah is a gorgeous name. I kinda want to name my daughter (FUTURE) mariah.

I think I'd spell it Meryiah or Mahria (i know people with both spellings lol)

Mireyah would be so cute too.

    What about Mia?

    Marie is so cute too.

Your daughter (hopefully. babydust!) is going to have such a beautiful name no matter what you choose!

  8. if there are many marias in ur family try with marianne

and if u like maya try with amaya.

    have luck!

  9. Mariah is a beautiful name :)

Marie is also a lovely name!!!

    good luck :D

  10. I would spell it as out of the Bible:1.) Maria,2.) Mariah,3.) Meira,4.) Mira,5.) Miri,6.)Mireya is also pretty the way you're spelling it.or you could spell it : Marya.

  11. Mariah/Maraya is nice...

    And what about Miriam/Maryam/Mariam??

I think people would have trouble pronouncing "Mireya".

  12. Seeing you are asking, I do like the name Mariah.  I love the Maraya spelling.  It is very unique!

  13. Well I love the name Maria, but if there is lots, it is probably best not to have another.

I like Marie, but I think it is a better middle name.

I also love Mariah, I think it is beautiful, and there is not as many as there is Maria's.

Also, how about using Maria as a middle name?

And you could maybe find another religious name, if you want to go with that theme.

    Hope I helped, Adrianna

  14. Maria is a gorgeous name. If you decided on something like Mireya, people who won't know about your family having Maria as a common name won't care for it as much. I think you should maybe go for another name and choose Maria or Marie as a middle name. That way you still get Maria in there without all the confusion.

    Hope it helps!

  15. I like the name Mariah but I think the spelling Maraya might get mispronounced. Maria means bitter in Hebrew so maybe you could try some other names that mean the same:

    Mara/Marah- ((mar ah)

    Maliana- (mal ee awna)

    Malia/Maleah/Malea- (mah lee ah)

    Maressa (mar ess ah)

Marielle/Mariella (mar ee el) (mar ee el la)

  16. How about Mary, which is the straight English translation of Maria? It also sounds significantly different to Maria, which to be honest is far more of an issue in real family life than changing the spelling.

Or you could use Maria as a middle name.

Or how about one of the names which has Maria or Marie as part of it? Something like Anne-marie?
