  1. Take everything out and obviously throw out what is garbage and put asidewhat you dont want or what you want to be donated. Be reasonable, if you havent used something in the last 5 years, or you dont remember it, you likely wont use it again. Don't be a packrat.

Then, start categorizing. Take out GROUPS of things... I had groups like...

(For clothes) Pants, Sweaters, Shirts, Tanks, Purses, Belts... Keep those things togehter.

Then you have other things like tools, sewing kit, puzzles, cell phone accessories, things you have to keep (paperwork), souvenirs, blankets, pictures... you get the idea. Keep the groups together and package it as is appropriate.. for example, i just bought a tool kit for my tacks, exacto knives, screwdriver sets, etc. And a seweing bag... everything else should go in boxes or bins.

Try to pack things in other things. Put all the square things togehter and puzzle-peice them toghether so they fit nicely.

Work from the outside of the closet in and put back what needs to go back. Put your least used things in first (back corners) and most used things in last (front corner)

Takes awhile, and i never follow my own organizational scheme but you shouldn't have to do it again for awhile if the things you use most are the most accessible, and its easy to do something like throw your bag into a box.

Might take a couple days,,, but enjoy!

  2. I used to be called Miss Clean.  I loved to tackle huge jobs like that.  I would make sure I had a large area to pull it all out and display it to yourself.  As I pulled stuff out I sorted it.  Depending what you have been storing in that closet.  As you sort, you decide whether or not you really

    1. want to keep it

    2. Does it fix

    3. does it belong there

    4. why is it there, does it need cleaning, fixing, or given away.

If there are several types of things in the closet sort them all in piles, and even if they are just clothing sort as you are pulling out.

Clothing is easy, sort out shirts, pants, dresses, vests, long dresses, jackets, blouses, long sleeve, short sleeve, and then also in colour   You might even get assorted colours of hangers and hang certain items on only one colour.  Do that with all the clothing.

Once you have sorted, and emptied the closet, (you might want to paint it or put some organizers in it before you put it back. Check your light is clean and the bulb is working also.

Look at how you are going to be using what is in the closet.  The things you don't use much, store up high or at the back or the ends.  The things you use all the time need to be in the middle or the side that is the easiest accessible.

Arrange your floor so that you can see everything that is on it.  Either shelves, racks or boxes that are labelled.  If you store things up high, make sure you label them so you will be able to go right to them when you want them.

    How is that for starters.

  3. haha i was in that situation just last week. take everything and throw it in the middle of your room and start cleanin!

  4. just pull everything out on the floor. make a pile of 1.definatly will wear/use again 2. havent used or worn in past 12months ( put that stuff in boxes or bags and put somewhere to store or throw out) 3. have a bin handy for the stuff you throw away....and just attack the closet get in there and do it, make it fun too put some music on and have a glass of wine that helps me to do things a drink always makes things more fun     go for it.

  5. Oh I wish I knew.  I have the same closet. Mine is in my bedroom. It is starting to spill out onto my bedroom floor.

I keep telling myself, today will be the day.  I have been giving most of my clothes away.

I have vowed now to make it a rainy day project.  Lets hope it happens soon.

    good Luck to you.

  6. Start by taking everything out.  Vacuum the top shelf of closet and run a damp rag over it.  Then clean the floor same way, unless its carpet, then just vacuum it.

Then sort through everything.  Things you dont use very often, put on top shelf and organize everything else on bottom, fold things, put similar things in storage bins and label them, get rid of things you dont need so you dont clutter it up again. Stack things on top of each other neatly so you can see everything.

  7. do like they do on Clean House. make a keep pile, a sell pile, and a throw away pile. then go over all of the keep pile and try to narrow it down even more. obviously throw away gross stuff like wrappers, food, ect. then buy storage containers

  8. lol, been there, done that.

We just take everything out and throw it all in the middle of the room and then get bags and sort through everything.

    :-)

  9. Take EVERYTHING out...put it all out on the floor.

Go through everything and if you havent worn it/used it in a year..get rid of it! (donate to good will or something)

    Then organize things in catagories

put the catagories in places that will fit the size of each catagory.

    Done!
