How to start a Suzuki GZ250?

Question

I turn the gas pecet on, turn the key, hit the start buton, sqeeuze the clutch and put it in 1st gear. When i put it in 1st it cuts off. am i doing something wrong. It is on but when i put it in first it wouldn;'t go. Do i need to open the trottle all the way (or get a run start). (I know) i am going to take a class in another week but i want to go in knowing something.

Put all your gear on. Sit on the bike.

Fuel (its vaccum value dont worry)

Ignition (key)

Neutral

Engine Cutoff (Red button on right handlebar)

Choke/Clutch (Hold the clutch in, and you may need to choke if cold)

You might want to put your kick stand up if you're trying to take off. Some bikes turn off if the kick stand is still down when you put it in first.
