Hi, I'm about to make a phone call in French, and I'd like to sound very polite. What do French people usually say right after the person picked up the phone?

  1. when they  pick up the phone you first of all say "allo" and then tell them

  2. If you cannot speak french a good way of starting off would be...

Bonjour (hello)..parle vous anglais? (Do you speak English?)

parle vous anglais is pronounced Par-lay Voo On-Glay

    hope this helps...

  3. Well, actually, there is no special sentence for this situation.

We say "Allo", but only when we pick up the phone, not when we actually make the call.

You better go with a simple "Bonjour" (hello), that will do the trick.

  4. bonjour or salut

    meaning good day 'hello'

  5. The French way to say hello on a phone is "Allo, oui?" (AH-lo)

  6. Bonjour, je m'appelle .... et je cherche à joindre .....

  7. allô!
