How to start a daycare?

I am interested in opening a child day care center. I live in san Diego California and would love to know where to begin with this venture. Any help would be great

I would start out by taking some child development classes at the college. Because no matter what you will need them!! you will need to decide if you want to hire all your help (teachers, director, ect.) or if you want to be in charge of it! To direct the school yourself in CA you need to have 15 units of ECE (early childhood education) and 3 of those classes need to be administrative! and you need to have at least 4 years of experience (paid or unpaid!) There are classes available for that too!

If you want to have your own building you need to find the place! In CA that means you need to have money and lots of it! The place will have to be zoned for daycare/preschool and then before you open you have to have the state board out to inspect it! That process can take up to 4 months and it has to be ready for business! Meaning you'll be paying for the spot for at least 4 months before you can make any money! It's a drag! You also have to attend a siminar they cost $50 and they teach all this stuff! DON'T GO to this until you are very close to getting your spot! because you have a year from the time to attend to your open for business! Or you have to attend again!

It is much easier to open home daycare! But most people don't want home to also be work so you'll just have to decide! You can go to Community Connections For Childcare facility and get info there or visit the website. For home childcare you need to safe gaurd the entire house and get qualified. You can do that by also attending the same class for $50 and taking classes at the college. I didn't want home daycare so I don't know as much on that! If you need more info feel free to email me! This is the easiest way, get a kit, it already includes forms, business letters, and a complete business plan. Very simple to follow plan.

you can open one up in your own home!

you need to get the word out though...

you could put a sign out in front of your house, or put an ad in the local paper.

you need to have some fun things in your home though;

soft toys,

keep all outlets blocked!!!

you need to go to your city hall and ask what are the requirements in your city to open a day care. For sure you need to have a live scan, to check your background ( criminal if any). after going through all the procedure you will obtain a city license .
